Support for raw encoding

I tried capturing "through the cracks" (https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=67160) as a benchmark, and, perhaps unsurprisingly, it doesn't work: the playback becomes garbled when it comes to high-bitrate bits.

I know very little about video encoding, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but here's my understanding: the encoding works fine since the encoder doesn't have a realtime requirement - it can lag behind the capture if it needs to. But it is the decoding that can't keep up.

So I wonder - would it make sense to write down raw data? My understanding is that there are formats which compress it slightly but don't try to do any of the expensive wavelet stuff. Again, I'm entirely out of my depth here and would love to hear your thoughts!
