Question: What is the best way to determine if a link is malicious?

I'm using this library to check links in sent messages, I'm not very familiar with VirusTotal's API and am unsure how to determine if its malicious or suspicious. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I would do a check to see if there are more than 2-3 positives, if so, it is malicous
