cannot detect system tray Manjaro

Open jellespijker opened this issue 5 years ago • 8 comments

Installed the package from AUR (virtscreen 0.3.1-1), but when I try to run it it gives me a "Cannot detect system tray on this system" error. I'm running OS 4.17.19-1-MANJARO with x11 not wayland.

Starting the program with the log=INFO flag results in an empty log.txt file.

Hi, which desktop environment are you using?

kbumsik avatar Nov 09 '18 21:11 kbumsik

gnome version 3.30.2

VirtScreen's overall UX relies on system tray icon. GNOME devs started calling it "legacy" and removed it since 3.26 version last year.

As a workaround, you can enable system tray feature by installing TopIcons Redux or similar extensions and VirtScreen will work fine.

@peer23peer Does it work now? Please tell me the result, if you have time :)

Got "Cannot detect system tray on this system" error in Elementary OS 5.0 as well. Elementary OS is based on Ubuntu 18.04 but does not support gnome desktop extension

Hey, that helped me, installing TopIcons Redux at Ubuntu 18.10 (4.18.0-17-generic #18-Ubuntu).

Thank you!

Don't suppose you know a way to have this run in i3, do you? Getting the same error.
