I added some better R code with [the example results with the problem](https://gist.github.com/kbroman/a35172029b7a319d74c5), and also posted [XML responses](https://gist.github.com/kbroman/68fd00dc37ee827acc49) for a search that sometimes gives [a single record](https://gist.github.com/kbroman/68fd00dc37ee827acc49#file-one_entry-xml) and sometimes gives...
I [posted a question](https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/arxiv-api/bUiVtj0MP88) on this to the [arxiv-api discussion list](https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!forum/arxiv-api).
I think that this problem is the same as [this question at the arxiv-api discussion list](https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/arxiv-api/d3F8sOgQp7U). There's a bug in the case of repeated identical queries that has to do...
I think maybe the hyphen is the problem; if you search for "covid" you get many more.
I think the problem is not the R package but the arXiv API itself. Here’s a [question on stackoverflow](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/62368794/search-results-from-arxiv-api-different-from-arxiv-advanced-search) reporting a similar issue.
(It's working fine for me at the moment.)
Thanks @sckott. It seems to be [working again](https://travis-ci.org/kbroman/aRxiv/builds/54102364). My guess is that arXiv was down/failing when the test was run. The arXiv problems are particularly painful as - they're intermittent...
Seems to be passing now, though. `¯\_(ツ)_/¯`
Sorry; I’m not sure how to do that.
I think the arXiv works best for searches that return a smaller number of documents, so if you're looking for a reproducible example, maybe focus on the results for a...
