question about metrics in spark

Hi, Kayousterhout！ I am new to Spark recently. But I am confused in the performance metric of Spark. I know you are focus on doing the metric job in spark now. I don't know whether there is metric APIs provided in Spark 1.5.x or later? And can you give me some tips about how to be aware about the performance of Spark even a bit more？ Thanks! zhenzhong
