making the website easier structured for translations
I got offered help fir writing french and german translation.
I guess I need to think about how translations could easily added to the website. And how that would look.
Have you considered using Jekyll? GitHub pages support Jekyll out of the box, it would allow easier handling of header/footers as well as translations (via this plugin for example).
That will require some work though, you will have to rewrite a big part of your current HTML files...
@bjansen Do you know how to install that language plugin in github pages ?
I can translate into Ukrainian and Russian.
@littleblueduck Awesome !
I think it will take me one week more before I'm able to add languages to the game. It is just, I want to be sure I'm doing the thing that is managable in the long time.
But in the meantime, if anyone wants to translate. Just make some documents in the following structure:
Level 1 goal: [your translation of the goal of level 1]
Level 1 extra: [your translation of extra information of level 1] (optional)
Level 2 goal: [your translation of the goal of level 2]
Level 2 extra: [your translation of extra information of level 2]
etc.
Translation of the other texts are not needed, I probably will change those texts too often the coming weeks. For example this text
If you are heading in the right direction, the game will notice you with a "Well Done!" message. After successfully constructing the triangle, a link will appear that let you continue to level 2. Not sure what to do ? Look at the tutorial for more information how to play this game. Use Ctrl+Z for undo and Ctrl-Y for redo. Hint: Don't randomnly create new (blue) points, but use circles to create new (black) points.
Doesn't need to be translated, also the footer doesn't have to be translated. When I have some final product, those texts can be translated, but not for now.
Also, for anyone that wants to translate, I could add your name to the website in the following way if you want that:
(c) 2014 Kasper Peulen | Translated by .... | Created with geogebra.
BTW,
If you are heading in the right direction, the game will notice you with a "Well Done!" message the game will notice you
Maybe "notify"?
hmm... not sure, I'm not a native english speaker.
Yep, "notify" works.
Created a repo with base translations: https://github.com/littleblueduck/euclidthegame No formatting and links yet, just text, but will add later.
awesome ! thank you so much. I think that in the end I will do formatting in markdown together with jekyll
Translation is excellent - especially for children, but i'd propose translate everything - especially tool names/descriptions. I volunteer for SK translation. I will also create a master translation file which will contain all the known translations - so that new translation can quickly be done from a complete orgin.
