Issue with FileVault 2?

Are there any known issues with SAT-SMART vs. FileVault 2? On my MacBook Air 2011, which has FileVault enabled, attaching USB drives with the kexts installed caused the system to hang in most cases. (E. g., the Dock remained partially responsive at first, but wouldn't let me launch or switch applications, and eventually froze.) I had to force-reboot to regain control.

On my Macmini3,1 without FileVault, there are no issues.

Both machines are running 10.8.2.

Are there any errors in /private/var/log/kernel.log ?

I am suspecting a generic problem with 64-bit Mountain Lion, but I only have an old Mac Mini with Snow Leopard, so I cannot confirm.
