Came here wondering the same. I'm looking to switch to split ergo keyboards with columnar stagger since they seem to be much smarter. This AI driven approach should be quite interesting.

There seems to be a lot of experimentation going on in the ergo mech scene with different physical and keymap layouts but it would be good to converge to some kind of new standard for keyboard layouts. With potentially 5 different buttons / modifier keys for the thumbs you could optimize a lot. My guess is the "design space" is vast if you'd allow this AI algorithm to also choose the physical layout or the modifier layers.
