We should definitely work on documenting these restrictions and obligations better.
To cut down on merging issues, I'd recommend waiting until the outstanding pull requests are merged: pull request #11 pull request #15
On second thought, this doesn't need to be held back by those PRs - just adjust them to not be put in to the non-wheel directory.

Haven't looked at the code yet, but you say the SQL doesn't work in Python. Seems odd that it wouldn't. Perhaps you need to turn off commitment control or commit...
