"Could not play this song"

Hi,

So for the last few days I've been getting this error on all of my songs: "Could not play this song". My songs don't appear in the library and when I try to play the by browsing to them, it just gives me the above error. The songs can be played by the built in sound player, VLC and some others. I've tried having the files on my SD card and on my internal storage. I've used both the play store version of the app and my build from last week. Same problem. I've ensured that the storage permission is, in fact, granted to the app. I've reset the cache, and even the app data. I've even flashed an older system image to see if that fixed the problem, but it didn't an older system image from when it used to work. Basically, I've tried everything I could think of, but no go. Any ideas how to fix this?

Strangely, the problem only occurs on my Nougat 7.0 Samsung S7. My LineageOS 7.1.2 Samsung A5 (2015) does not have this issue.

I have exactly the same issue on my Pixel 2 (Android 8.1.0).
