Tapping a text area field causes ui elements to overflow on mobile linux

Open heldderarbeit opened this issue 8 months ago • 4 comments

Describe the bug

Hi, I'm trying Interstellar (installed from Flathub) on a mobile linux distribution (postmarketOS edge with Phosh on a Pixel 3a). So far, it's quite usable. But I noticed if you tap inside a text area field (for example in Switch accounts - Add account - Instance Host), the right part of the UI suddenly moves outside the border of the screen. Seems to be a problem generally with text areas, it overflows too when you try to create a new post.

Bug starts at 0:11. Everything now is shifted a bit too far to the right side. The part before that is only to show what it's supposed to look like normally.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Settings (Cog wheel)
  2. Switch accounts
  3. Add account
  4. Tap Instance Host

Result: parts of ui elements are suddenly moved outside the screen. Which is unexpected and probably should not happen.

I can't think of any way this could be caused by Interstellar itself, so I'm going to assume it has something to do with Flutter, which is our UI framework. Since Interstellar's last release, I have bumped Flutter's version from 3.29.0 to 3.29.3, so I'm going to wait till Interstellar's next release before looking much into this issue. Let's check-in back here after the next update and let me know if the issue has been fixed or not.

The bug curiously does not occur on Gnome / Plasma Mobile. Phosh bug report: https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/Phosh/phosh/-/issues/1230

@heldderarbeit, are you still seeing this with the latest version (v0.9.2)?

Yes, can still reproduce with 0.9.2.
