jupyterlab-variableInspector Jupyterlab fails to build

I Installed jupyterlab in a conda R environment. First I made sure that repr is installed:

Then I wanted to use the recommended installation method via pip but I ended up with issue #211 (I also installed node.js before that using conda install.

I then wanted to use jupyter labextension install @lckr/jupyterlab_variableinspector but this gives me this error:

Had a similar issue when trying to install via jupyter labextension within a conda env on WSL (Ubuntu 18.04). I prefer to avoid using pip in a conda env, so I worked around that by installing this conda package instead:

https://github.com/conda-forge/jupyterlab-variableinspector-feedstock

Not a big fan of using a conda version of a package maintained by others than the package's original author, but for now it works like a charm. Hope it helps in your case as well!

Starting with Jupyterlab 3, you should only install this extension using the python package.

Closing as answered, please open a new issue in case you have an installation issue.
