Returning the message associated with the error code

If I run a cell that fails to execute using a notebook I get the error code and a message. However, if I run the same cell via the kernel gateway it only returns the error code without the message.

Am I missing something here, or is this the expected behaviour. Obviously, it would be extremely useful to have the message returned too.

Hi @carlskii - could you please provide some information as to how to reproduce this? I'm assuming the same "error-producing" command was used between both environments but because kernels can be particular, it would be helpful to know the most simple cell content to enter.

Also, a screenshot of each error display would go a long way.
