Support text formatting (bold, italics, etc) in headers and super/subscript

Proposal

Currently you cannot use italics or bold text in the front matter, e.g. in the title. In some cases however, this is needed, e.g. species names by definition need to be italicised - it is not just considered improper formatting, but wrong not to do so (yes, I know, it is archaic, but those are the rules 😂).
