Protocol support in statsd servers

Cool project, but testing your examples of your "network efficient" updates it would seem that very few statsd servers accept updates in your suggested formats. Additionally I don't see anywhere in the official (etsy) reference implementation that would suggest that your update formats are officially supported in any way.

That said, it would certainly appear that the reference implementation does read your condensed protocol. Do you have a reference you can point me at that says that this is intentional, supported and not something that could be deprecated silently in the future?
