Hi Dean, Thanks for the PRs! I've not forgotten about them but Ii'm still heads down on the meltdown/spectre mess and currently don't have time to look at the PRs....
I'm not sure how much sense this makes in this context. Can you provide a use case?
`Closed due to lack of activity.` You're kidding right? It took Proton 10 months to reply with a half-baked suggestion and then close the ticket one hour later as `completed`??...

I haven't touched this in ages. If you're interested in the CLI you might have better luck with the Linux binaries from https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/manageability-tools.
Try `./configure --disable-eventing`
I believe these are different issues. The sdtool problem was introduced in 5.5 and fixed in 5.10 (BertoldVdb/sdtool#10). But the mmc tool fails for all kernels that I've tested 4.18...
And the mmc tool fails fast, whereas sdtool spins for a couple of seconds before timing out.
