Internships at the Bank of England / programming in Python and Julia

This is a message from a friend who works at the Bank of England. Please let me know if you wish to apply.

Following last year's experience in New York, I am looking for two phd summer interns to work with me the bank of england. Here is the offer:

1/ Contribute a bit of opensource programming around dolo (and quantecon ?), in Python or Julia. Currently the developing areas are heterogeneous agents and high dimensionality spaces, but there are plenty of other options, like structural estimation.

2/ Apply it to some structural/nonlinear research. Research topics can be supplied by the candidate or the bank (me). For instance, there will be a project on sudden stops and possibly another one on social learning. More projects will be decided in April.

Logistically speaking, the internship runs for 3 months, pays 100 pounds a day, and the dates are negotiable (not necessarily over the summer). Overseas candidates receive a small accommodation allowance and reimbursement for an economy-class return flight to London.

Deadline is 15th of february.

I want the internship to be minimally disruptive to the phd studies. In particular there is no requirement for the candidate to produce "a quick 3 months study on a policy relevant business"... Preexisting interest for programming/opensource would be very good, but some technical backgrounds would do too, as 1/ should be a very good excuse to build skills. Potential candidates should speak to me before applying online (https://www.bankofenglandearlycareers.co.uk/our-programmes/phd/).
