Lightning striking villagers when certain conditions are met, spawns a wandering trader

To elaborate, If a villager is wearing fully blue leather armor (dispense it on to them), is standing on a bell and is struck by lightning they should turn into a wandering trader, I feel this would be a good change since getting wandering traders requires placing around 6500 blocks in a square shape, lighting it all up and waiting for dozens of hours while having to check in once every hour minimum, this is just really grindy and boring while I feel my method isn't as bad seeing as you already need lightning to get villagers in the first place

I've know that's an issue. The lava from wandering traders mechanic has been left over from SkyRising's skyblock mod. But before obsidian/portals, there's no good way to automate the process by moving traders into unloaded chunks (maybe a method could be set up using minecarts?). It can take multiple irl days of constant monitoring to get lava. My plan for the next version has been to make lava buckets instead be a obtainable via a hero of the village gift. This still requires the same sort of progression as the current version because it requires villagers, but its possible to actively make progress rather than just relying on luck. You can then choose whether to get enough lava from just gifts or go the wandering trader route for pointed dripstone (which is much more common than lava is now, as it's a tier-1 trade).

It is definitely possible to store wandering traders using unloaded chunks without a nether portal. I personally designed one in the Carpet Sky discord server using a diagonal water flow to push the traders to one side of a water stream, with a ladder on the other side to prevent collisions at the unloading point. It is also possible to use scaffolding, which other players have preferred. See ilmango's videos for the difficulties with designing this farm, his design uses minecarts and is rather complex. This part of the game is definitely a point of AFK. If players want to avoid it, there's always the oak version, but they will still need to AFK for some specific items like dripstone or moss.
