Great contribution. It fixes an issue we had when adding new simple products to a configurable. It was unassinging the old products, and when we made the same request, it restores the old simple products, losing the new ones. Thank you for this pull. It helped us a lot.

@r-martins a very old issue but did you ever find a patch for the bug you mentioned?
