Space Ace is showing properly, however it does not play properly. In the first scene, when the laser fires at you, you should hit to dodge behind the rock. This should lead to him firing at you again, before it eventually pans back to your character running left.

However, in the RM version, if you get the timing right to jump behind the rock, it cuts to a totally new scene with a ship flying through the air. It is not passing the proper frame back to the game to keep the action running in a logical manner.
