question:can someone exlain in detail use of --backend

Yes, I'm wondering how --backend might to used? The doc is not very helpful. Could someone give me a detailed example? For example does it have to be used when socks? If not does it just monitor all forwarded ports and if it sees a HTTP protocol it then forwards to backend?
