So does workshop support work>?

For gmod? Or did you have another game in mind?

For gmod it should work but I haven't actually tested it.

Arma in particular? It uses the usual steam workshop id's

Ahh, unfortunately I don't know if the workshop works with Arma. I don't own Arma so I haven't tried testing it too thoroughly at this point.

In theory it should work though. Assuming it's configured the same was as the gmod one.
