One could take the `l3draw` tests and use a bit of search-and-replace to repurpose many of them: most of the API is very similar to `pgf`. I might find a...

@hmenke I guess that's a tension between `pgfkeys` as a part of `pgf` and as a generic tool.

I think I (and perhaps @hmenke) could do with a more concrete example of a real-world problem this solves. (I'm thinking in terms of `l3keys`, but as it's inspired by...

Reading the example back, I wonder why you don't just `.store in` then at point-of-use have a `\@nameuse{...}` containing the macro that is used for storage?

As an aside, you might want to look at the work in `l3color` on multiple models: it's now part of `l3kernel` so generally available in LaTeX. Patterns are not included...

Hmm, I'm amazed that hasn't come up before. I'll give it a bit of thought: I guess I need to work out whether I should deal with actives in the...

I'm discussing with the rest of the LaTeX team: I'm wondering if this needs a mechanism in `expl3` (it's a gneral issue).

Actually, I'd rather set up to suppress the `\mathrm` in the first place: I have an idea but it may take a day or two.

On the other hand, something like `isomath` needs `\mathrm{\Omega}` to be upright ... and that's before you worry about `unicode-math`

@egreg suggests that `\mathrm{\Omega}` 'should' be OK - I'm going to consult with @wspr and @frankmittelbach I think.
