Thank you!

Open source software, and platforms to develop it, typically do not provide a standard method for users to express positive feedback, praise and appreciation. Even the term "bug tracker" or "issue tracker" assumes that whatever is included are problems to be resolved — even feature requests, under this context, are encouraged to be seen as limitations rather than, for example, expressions of users wanting to spend even more time with the software. The fact that comments in issues or PRs generate notifications for everyone involved sometimes leads me to refrain from adding a thank you message when a feature is added or a bug is resolved. I use emoji reactions instead, but that doesn't register with the author of the change unless they happen to revisit the thread.

So I'm opening this issue as a place to express this kind of feedback for GitFourchette. Consider this my aggregate explicit thanks for all the existing threads where I merely reacted with a 🎉 or ❤️ to the closing message. Hopefully others can chime in over time, as has happened in the past for other projects.

I'll start by quoting @l-cornelius-dol's comment from #21:

There's no "putting up with" on my part; GitFouchette is already head-and-shoulders above other Linux Git clients, so I am very, very grateful that you've made it available. Even more so that you're so open to enhancements.

FWIW, GitFourchette appeared in my Software Repo just as I returned from work after Christmas, after making the switch to Linux a couple weeks before, and is a huge blessing to me. I had been using SourceTree for Windows and had up til then found nothing that was close to as good for Linux.

...and I second both of these points. I think I have expressed my admiration for how good GitFourchette already is (possibly in the Ko-fi support message) but it bears repeating: this is AFAIK the nicest GUI git client for Linux, and as a former user of SourceTree (on macOS), I too had been looking for something of similar design and polish for several years now, and finally found it in GitFourchette (and I too highly value to openness to feedback!)

Keep up the amazing work! 👏 💪 🤩

Though it might be redundant, since I was quoted, I could not agree more. I am frequently disappointed by the (apparent) sense of entitlement many users of free software demonstrate, especially so when it comes from other software engineers who should be aware of just how much effort a good software product takes. May I not be found wanting in my praise of a job well done, and then given to me for gratis.

This means a lot to me! After building this project in private for a couple years (on and off), I'm delighted that "real-world" users like you are enjoying the work I've put my heart into. I appreciate all the constructive feedback so that we can make it better together. Thank you both for your support! :)

I have been using GitExtensions on Windows for ages and had been struggling to find a comparable GUI tool for Linux. Finally found this app, truly a worthy GitExtensions successor 👑

This is the only git tool besides the command line that doesn't crash and burn when I try to open the repository of our website. Thank you🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
