running tool resets to default styles
I'm writing some documentation that describes a command I'm writing. I took effort to describe what the user types and what is variable by using some smart font/highlighting. When I run the tool, it resets all of my work back to the default style for the level i'm working at. This is annoying. Is it important to reset all of my specific formatting?
I am not sure I understand, as this is not my experience. Can you give me a specific example of how I can recreate the issue you are seeing? The documents I work with have a lot of styles and font settings, colors, etc, and none of them are impacted. I even change all of the heading styles and they are not impacted.
Example as requested.
- format section header
- run Extensions -> Markdown Tools -> heading numbers -> 1.2.3
- formatting is gone

I have tried this and it works. I was really surprised by your bug report because I use this all the time with custom headings. Though I usually do not use highlighting in my headings. So I checked that. Please see the two screenshots. The first is before the tool is run the second is after the tool is run. I even show the heading drop down menu.
Or is your desire to only have part of the heading highlighted and part of it in a different font? If that is the case, then that is a problem with Google Docs. When ever the heading is re-activated for a line it goes back to the default for that heading style. Markdown Tools works with the native Google Docs features to help ensure that it does not break every time Google changes something. So if you are wanting partial formatting in a heading, I am not sure what can be done.
i have modified the heading within the body of the document. only part of it is modified. i see the problem you describe.
my use case is that i want to document a function and different font/colour/highlight describes different aspects of the function (e.g. fixed, a name that is supplied by the caller, etc.).
it's not the end of the world. it would have been nice though. oh well.
