Where did the magic number of a minimum of 5 come from?

My guess is there would be very few networks of more than the minimum size because it increases the risk of network failure. Yes a larger network has way more skin in the game but has no incentive to grow, only shrink. Unless you can create some advantage to being in a network with more skin in the game? Ultimately wouldn't you want to maximize average skin in the game though, not have it at the bare minimum?

The only way to ensure sufficient skin in the game is to ensure big enough networks which would be by setting the minimum appropriately. So did you pull the number 5 for the minimum network size out of the air or is it based on some established social networks or graph theory research?

I pulled it from the air :) I'm not at all invested in it, and part of a worthwhile discussion of this idea would have to involve thinking about what size that number should really be.
