This is intentional, this way don't need as much additional spacing, especially when there are no records :)
Is there a case where it gets outside the screen or something like that? I don't think overflowing the table is an issue in itself.
Honestly, WCA Live isn't the right place to search for competitions, because some organizers import the competition to WCA Live only shortly beforehand, and if we are talking about competitions...
For ongoing competitions more specific sorting rules make more sense, but again I expect most regular users to never sign in.

Submitting empty attempts is actually very intentional, it's the proper value when submitting partial results, e.g. filling remaining FMC attempts with DNS is not really accurate and introduces unnecessary noise...
