Suggestion: WearOS standalone app
I was looking for a running app for my Galaxy Watch 7 that keeps workout history locally, without needing a connection to the cloud or Samsung apps. Everything should remain local. I found RunnerUp and installed the full version (not the WearOS version, since it also requires a smartphone). It works well functionality-wise, but the UI needs improvement—both in terms of screen size and support for the round display (I'm using a Galaxy Watch 7 44mm). Here are some pictures:
The screenshots are in Hebrew because that’s the language set on my watch. I hope it’s clear which parts of the interface I’m capturing. I don’t want to reset the watch just to set it to English… but if it’s necessary, please let me know and I’ll do it. Thanks!
A standalone Wear app is required to add the Wear app to play - companion only are not accepted. That requires someone with a device, knowledge and time (I fail on the first, so other two are not considered). I believe the design guidelines are quite different, a little surprised that the app is almost usable (well to 10% or so).
I have a Galaxy Watch 7 device, some (limited) time, and sufficient technical knowledge to start working on this.
Therefore, I intend to begin working on Wear OS support. I most likely won’t be able to complete the project on my own, and I hope other developers will join the effort.
P.S. I’ve done some initial testing with the app — it runs and functions on the watch, but the user experience is not ideal on such a small screen.
