How to Use "MakeHiRes" Application?

I would like to be able to try 480i with other N64 games, though I am not sure how to use this program. Would it work for any N64 rom? If so, how would I go about using it?

I wanted to try patching some rom hacks and such for 480i, especially the optimized patch for Mario 64 to see if it runs better. It currently doesn't work given that the patch file doesn't match the rom. I was hoping that there would be a relatively universal way of enabling 480i in any N64 game, similar to how any N64 game can be stripped of anti-aliasing.

There's no universal way - it's a lot of work every game.
