Why don't you just run the binary instead of trying to build it from scratch? The download links for the binaries is on the main page of the Github project. It's also inside ChiliPeppr if you are starting there.

am i missing something?

JEROME4095 avatar Aug 11 '15 00:08 JEROME4095

Are you trying to use ChiliPeppr? Or are you trying to write a custom program to talk to SPJS? If you're using ChiliPeppr go to http://chilipeppr.com

johnlauer avatar Aug 11 '15 00:08 johnlauer

i am tring to use your program chilipepper

JEROME4095 avatar Aug 11 '15 00:08 JEROME4095

Ok. Then you need to go to http://chilipeppr.com and connect to a workspace and connect to SPJS from inside the workspace. I'm showing you were to connect in the screenshot below

JEROME4095 avatar Aug 11 '15 01:08 JEROME4095

not to sure how to get the server to connect i have look a my network with wireshark and cant see any port 8989 packets

JEROME4095 avatar Aug 11 '15 01:08 JEROME4095

I think you are making this too hard on yourself.

  1. Have you "scanned for hosts" inside ChiliPeppr? It will show you your running Serial Port JSON Server.
  2. Did you go ahead and just try connecting to localhost? You're probably running SPJS on the same box as ChiliPeppr so just trying localhost will work beautifully.
  3. Did you see that when you launch Serial Port JSON Server is spits out your local IP address for you to help you out? In your screenshot it shows 192.168.1.5:8989

johnlauer avatar Aug 11 '15 01:08 johnlauer

i have scanned it shows json not connected, localhost fails

JEROME4095 avatar Aug 11 '15 01:08 JEROME4095

Did you exit Serial Port JSON Server? Did you try item 3 above? Can you send back way more screenshots and provide much longer responses to help me out?

At this point I suggest you watch the tutorial video. The one that was done a few days ago is likely the most relevant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08KHl2vtiGM

JEROME4095 avatar Aug 11 '15 02:08 JEROME4095

Or this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKLdgpz8gpQ which is a bit old but has more discussion of serial port json server.

Can you make a video walking us through your whole setup to help me/us out? You're not explaining enough about what you've tried, what's failed, what your setup is, etc, so with the goal of actually truly understanding your setup I think the only way is a full video walkthrough of what you're trying to do and what's failing. I suggest using Jing because it's free https://www.techsmith.com/download/jing/
