Hi! I had a problem a few time with Laine which was that the icon in top bar would just get duplicated dozens of time, even pushing the other icons...
I have installed laine from gnome-shell-extension on 2 machines running gnome-shell 3.26.1. It's working fine on one but doesn't seem to start on the other one: there is no drop-down...
I forked the extension (https://github.com/getzze/Laine/tree/master) to optionally add a menu entry to open pavucontrol. I only tested with gnome 3.22.
