We're using the Redirection plugin and our question is straightforward. The Redirect and 404 logs are both set to be cleared/deleted after one day. Neither get deleted after one day and we have to physically go into both logs and delete them every few days (and there are many pages of entries each time). This has been going on for months. Can you please help us with this issue so both logs are deleted automatically after one day? We look forward to your response...Thank you! :)

Do you have WordPress cron enabled and running correctly on your site? Redirection uses that to delete items.

johngodley avatar Jun 08 '21 19:06 johngodley

Thank you for your response! We don't know if we have WordPress cron enabled and running correctly on our site. How can we determine/verify this to ensure Redirection can delete items?

Thank you for your support!

WP Cron is a default part of WordPress.

johngodley avatar Jul 04 '21 11:07 johngodley

Hi John,

We verified with our hosting site (inmotionhosting.com) that in fact our CRON is turned on and active for the redirection plug in as you suggested. Unfortunately, our Redirection log and 404s still aren't clearing daily as we've set them up to do. How can we rectify this so they clear daily?

Thank you for your support!

If you have enabled the option, and cron is enabled, then the logs will be cleared slowly. They are not guaranteed to be cleared immediately after a day. This is how it is supposed to work.

Thank you for your response John. We've let the logs go for a week or two and they don't clear at all. (In one day's time we end up with 12 pages of logs and 3 pages of 404's.) After we learned that they don't clear over a long period we began clearing them daily ourselves. We would prefer to have it done automatically. Do you have any suggestions on how we can enable this to happen, even slowly as you mentioned?

Thank you for your support!

The plugin will do this for you if you have the option enabled, and WP cron is working on your site. As described, it will do this slowly so as not to impact your site, and you may find that you have logs older than the time limit.

I am having the same issue, I am here because my logs never clear and have always had to do them manually. From above, I will say it sounds like the problem is that my wordpress cron is disabled, and I do not want to enable it due to performance issues. Is there an option / specific command / etc, that I can use with Cpanel cron jobs? Or sql?

I'm also still having this issue and have to manually clear my logs and 404s daily. Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Let me chime in here that we have wp-cron enabled, and it's working, and retention for both is set to a week, and we have approximately two years' worth of logs.
