Is it worth buying a used tacx pre smart trainer assuming this will work
Hey, So I know this isn't an issue per se, but i've been following this repo for a bit and i'm looking at a cheap i magic trainer im thinking of buying. I've got a fair bit of python knowledge and was wondering if buying it was worth it considering this is more or less a hack.
I'd go for it Tacx is pretty much russian roulette for build quality but if it's a good one it's the exact same experience as the new ones. I'm still on a Fortius from 2009 I believe and refuse to buy a new one until it quits.
Thanks @jr111 But I was asking more in terms of how advanced/reliable/viable the project was. Do you have it working ? Currently for zwift, I have a tacx cycletrack which i set as a classic blue matic because the power curves are similar. Was wondering if the trouble of having something even more of hack and paying for it was worth it. I don't mind doing some work on the project, just wanted to know if there were any expectations of it dying before being completely usable. Maybe @john-38787364 can weight in on this ?
I got my Fortius up and running with a lib usb driver, uploading the firmware with the tool from this repo, and GoldenCheetah (a free program to do trainings, it supports some of the Tacx trainers). Haven't tried Antifier and Zwift yet, but the firmware upload for Fortius works
Eh it works alright I was getting 50% power values but editing the power factors file is simple enough. Occasionally it seems to lose sync which requires a stop/start of the script not the end of the world. All in all cheers to the developer(s)!
