[usability] Ruler's options to be persistent

Hi @johanmattssonm,

Can we please have the ruler's options persistent? For example, to measure on the x axis I always have to type x before dragging the ruler. For cases when I just want to measure from this perspective, I'd rather want to hit x once, instead of everytime.

The alternative is to enable Show grid, and with that the ruler seem to snap to guides whether I hit q or not.
