elements / buttons in thin/horizontal elbow-bars

I'd love to see elements/buttons in the thin/bottom horizontal elbow-bars. While @tenleftfingers seems to have directly formatted this in the screenshots they #15, the fork of @xenziffen seems to support this, natively (cf. screenshot in their post in #38 and their fork).

Right now, including elements makes them stand out to top or bottom, which is not always desirable.
