My Tabliss reset to default (after version 2.2)

Open joelshepherd opened this issue 2 years ago • 15 comments

Hi everyone,

If your settings reset to default on Tabliss version 2.2+, please post a bug report here.

Please include the following details:

  • Which browser you were using
  • Whether you were using the extension or the web version
  • Whether you were in private/incognito mode (including permanent private modes, like Firefox's "never remember history")
  • Whether you have recently been low on diskspace
  • Whether you had permitted Tabliss to "Persist Settings" in the settings menu
  • If you did anything notable beforehand (e.g. recently restarted your browser)

Common troubleshooting information is available at: https://tabliss.io/support.html

If you would like to send my your config, but not publicly, you can email them to me at [email protected].

Using Safari Version 3.0 (1006.4.18) (web version) I don't see the option to persist settings. Not using incognito mode. Not low on diskspace.

I have this issue of Tabliss resetting, but much more so on my desktop than my laptop. When I'm back at my desktop (if I remember), I will update this comment to include my Chrome version. (it should be roughly the latest however)

One thing to note about my desktop usage (which isn't true for my laptop), is that I usually have many Chrome windows open, with each having many tabs. Maybe there is something about having tons of windows/tabs/new-tabs open (I use "new tabs" as separators for tab-groups) that causes the issue.

When Tabliss resets, do you see the "Storage Error" popup? And is there anything in the browser console if you do?

Also when it does reset, if you go back to one of the other Tabliss tabs you already had open, do they still have your old settings (assuming no refresh)?

It just reset for me in Safari (again) where do I look for the storage error? Does this help?

Interestingly I saw "Persist Settings" for the first time yesterday. Today it is gone agian (both times Safari)

The "Persist Settings" option should disappear after you've pressed it, as you only need to enable the storage persistence setting once. I also could not figure out what Safari version you are using, Wikipedia says Safari 3.0 was released in 2007.

For the error you posted, I'm not (yet) sure how that error leads to Tabliss resetting. If that error occurs when Tabliss opens, it may not load your settings for that tab, but a simple refresh should bring them back. I'll see if I can replicate something on my mac.

That is probably true, but I'm running Safari Version 15.4 (17613.1.17.1.13) My apologies for not including that info.

How does one "undo" the Persist Settings if needed?

I'm not entirely sure where on Safari. But in Firefox, permissions come up in the URL bar: image

If you do run into the reset again, can you try restarting Safari and seeing if your settings come back?

In Safari it is under Privacy but removing that doesn't give me the choice of Persisting settings. So 🤷🏻‍♂️

Which browser you were using: Firefox Whether you were using the extension or the web version Extension Whether you were in private/incognito mode (including permanent private modes, like Firefox's "never remember history") No Whether you have recently been low on diskspace No Whether you had permitted Tabliss to "Persist Settings" in the settings menu No, though I enabled it afterwards. It did not resolve the issue. If you did anything notable beforehand (e.g. recently restarted your browser) Not that I can think of.

Interestingly, I first noticed this issue on my work laptop to begin with and then saw it on my personal computer. They're both using Firefox and I have the extension settings synced. So, maybe there's some weirdness with the config? It seems the config is actually still there in the sidebar, just not showing up in the main area.

Same here

Browser is Orion Version 0.99.127.2-beta (WebKit 619.1.1) Using the extension Not in private/incognito Not low on diskspace Tabliss gives me "could not persist settings at this time" when this happens, so no This only occurs when restarting the browser
