Yes. I'd make profile shift a percentage. Two gears would mesh, if one has -X % and the other has +X % profile shift. -100% should mean that the addendum...
I believe, this was too simplistic. Real profile shift should shift the entire contour inwards or outwards. Not just the endpoints.
I'll put this to the back of the queue. As long as we still have issues with involute gears, I'll focus on these.
Never used the g-code export plugins. Do you suspect issues? How would we know that it does the 'right thing'? Do you have a test case?
