Custom Emoji

Is it possible to have "custom" emoji? I.e. similar to Discord where you can have a custom image for an emoji in the emoji picker but when you click on one of the images, it translates to text in the input field.

For example: An image of the emote image translate to :upvote: when clicked in the emoji picker.
