Playback smoothness issues

Open softwarelimits opened this issue 6 years ago • 8 comments

Well, this is of course a bummer - the playback of the timeline produces no smooth playback between clips - on the beginning of a new clip the playback stops for some milliseconds, this stuttering effect also happens when I switch the monitor playback interpolation to "nearest neighbour (fast)".

This is of course totally inacceptable and makes it impossible to use this software for anything related to serious work. This needs to be fixed with highest priority, very basic thing that absolutely needs to work without any problems.

This is a fast machine, no such playback problems with any other video editing software (Lightworks, Resolve, even KDEnlive).

Well, not happening here. However, if you state that KDEnlive is better in this regard, it warrants investigation.

I merged #584 with this.

Same on Fedora 29 , Nvidia driver , and playback is fine on Kdenlive ( maybe its when cuting the same file in 2 then play the part is verry slow is so bad)

Confirming this issue on my system too (Fedora 33, with all versions of Flowblade I've used). Muting the video track and just playing the audio is the only way I've found to get smooth playback when the cursor moves across a clip boundary. I can try to make a video of the issue if necessary, though my system is not super powerful so I'd have to video it from an external camera rather than using screen recording software.

I have the same problem. For me, reproducing is quite easy: I just add some video effect (like Transform / Position Scale) and modify something - then it starts to get sluggish.

But that gets worse, actually - if I go to settings, performance, and check "Allow frame dropping" it still is slow, and if I render the project the final video also drops the frames...

What number of threads did you set it to and how many does your cpu support?Sent from my phone-------- Original message --------From: Maurício Szabo @.>Date: Sat, 27 Jan 2024, 04:22To: jliljebl/flowblade @.>Cc: Subscribed @.***>Subject: Re: [jliljebl/flowblade] Playback smoothness issues (#625) I have the same problem. @dvdlvr I have set for 4, 8, and 1 thread. My CPU supports 16.

Also, if I open the project file, it starts to consume almost half of my CPU, even when idle. This is a capture of htop after opening my project (a very small, 30min video with Defish and Position/Scale filters, no transitions):

Alright. On my system I did extensive testing. I have an 8 "real" thread cpu and 16 "virtual" thread and the optimal setting for me is 4 with no frame drop. This gives me the fastest render.

I never had the playback problem. It may not be linked to the threads. It's good to see you tried different settings.

Thanks for your feedback.
