Handbrake starting encode, then immediately completing encode with 0kb output

Open Aerochill opened this issue 1 year ago • 14 comments

Current Behavior

I am using Handbrake with autovideoconverter. When I try to use the watch folder with autovideoencoder the process just ends up like I stated in the title.

Doing so through the Handbrake GUI, however, yields expected results. I've combed through the logs and I can't seem to figure out why it is "succeeding" to encode nothing.

Expected Behavior

Autovideoconerter should behave the same as the GUI.

Steps To Reproduce

I simply used my custom preset and set the watch folder to download like I have many times before.

Environment

  • OS: TrueNAS
  • OS version: Scale 24.04
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600
  • Docker version: 24.03.1
  • Device model:
  • Browser/OS: Opera GX on other machine

I'm having this as well, I don't get much info in the docker logs but I'm running on Unraid 6.12.9 with Thor's custom kernal so I can use an Intel Arc GPU and get this in the Unraid logs

I am having the same issue. Any time I attempt to use any custom preset for the automated encoding, the logs will show a successful completion of the encode (as shown below), but the resultant output will be 1kb. If I default the field in the docker container stipulating a custom preset, the encode proceeds normally at the default Fast1080p30 preset. If I attempt to manually use any custom preset I created, the encode complete normally.

It's only when I specify a custom preset in the automated process.

Can you try this ? https://github.com/jlesage/docker-handbrake/issues/347#issuecomment-2222509081 The only thing that change between the GUI and the automatic converter is that the GUI uses software decoding and autoconverter don't.

Yes, with AUTOMATED_CONVERSION_HANDBRAKE_CUSTOM_ARGS=--disable-qsv-decoding it is works. And I think the hw decoding is still working because the average FPS is about 350 and CPU usage is 80-90%, if I choose x264 encoder, FPS less than 30 and CPU usage is 100%

The only thing that change between the GUI and the automatic converter is that the GUI uses software decoding and autoconverter don't.

I don't think so. In the GUI FPS is more than 300 which is not possible for my Celeron N5105 I think

Thanks for the tip, by the way :) I wasn't paying attention when I first looked at https://github.com/jlesage/docker-handbrake/issues/347

I ran into this problem, too. I could use automatic encoding for QSV720 but not QSV1080, and with no error message. I could xcode the same video file with that same profile in the gui, so I knew it wasn't a permissions issue. Figured it must be a config issue on my end. Found this thread and finally got the solution.

Adding "AUTOMATED_CONVERSION_HANDBRAKE_CUSTOM_ARGS=--disable-qsv-decoding" fixed it.

Could this be added to the docs? Thx!

I encountered this problem many times now too. It really needs a fix.

AUTOMATED_CONVERSION_HANDBRAKE_CUSTOM_ARGS=--disable-qsv-decoding did not fix it for me.

[autovideoconverter] Removing '/watch/test.mp4'...
[autovideoconverter] Removed '/watch/test.mp4'.
[autovideoconverter] Watch folder '/watch' processing terminated.

Ty, but I don't think it's related to this issue particularly.

[autovideoconverter] Encoding /watch/test.mp4: task 1 of 1, 30.21 % [autovideoconverter] Encoding /watch/test.mp4: task 1 of 1, 44.79 % (15.75 fps, avg 28.02 fps, ETA 00h00m07s)

It's says that the encoding at least started, which it's not the case for the issue of this thread. Would you mind opening a new issue with the above logs and also add the conversion.log (in your case, it should be located at /mnt/user/NAS/Docker/HandBrake/config/log/hb/conversion.log) please ? Tag me in your post, I'll be happy to help you. 👍

I can't tag you in an issue, that you haven't replied to yet, as it seems. So I'm gonna do it here and send you to the issue.

Take care about the Environment "AUTOMATED_CONVERSION_HANDBRAKE_CUSTOM_ARGS: --disable-qsv-decoding", in my case it has override my custom preset for the format from "mkv" to "mpeg4". Anyway i have also this issue with my i5-12500H QSV and Docker Compose. QSV works with GUI. Hope this will be fix soon. Thanks!

Note: Sorry, i dont use the Environment "AUTOMATED_CONVERSION_FORMAT: mkv"
