feature request/question: allow users to define their own dirTimeFormats and their own parseFuncs

What do you guys think? I feel like this is a good addition, but I'm not sure if it should be added to a per-connection basis or should be a 'RegisterParseFunc/RegisterDirTimeFormat' strategy.
