magnetometer calibration still not great

calibration seems to succeed but keeping the device level and turning it around the z-axis still produces a point cloud that's not centered at origin...

Possibly the axes aren't closely enough aligned to how the device rests on a level surface ? Maybe need to calibrate the axes with direction of gravity (instead of assuming gravity is positive z axis)...
