I just tried using this package today and it also doesn't work for me

Can you try without pandas to narrow down the cause? Running matplotlib directly works for me (in both ipython and cpython): image

Also can you confirm which version of the module you are using? There was a recent commit to address ipython support with pandas but if you installed via pip you likely got an older version without this patch (#16). If so may be worth trying to clone the version from the repo directly to see if this fixes your problem.
