How much traction has this gained so far with the other interested parties? Are there implementations of it already? Were there points of discussion or contention that got ironed out?...

Discussed during the monthly call. JB in agreement with Daniel regarding only encoding where necessary. Also agreed above table would be an improvement.

Just a note, tbi isn't ideal as (I think) it limits chromosomes to 512MB. So *requiring* it may be detrimental in some circumstances. Bcftools supports CSI too which overcomes this...
