I wouldn't merge this as it has the issue that it will cause a release of the specific version on every PR merged to the 'main' branch. It is a naive solution to the problem.

Happy to dig further into a better solution for the release process if you want the contribution but would be good to know a bit more about the circleci environment that it is running within.
