@MSanKeys963 - I think that is a great place to start. We could also make the trigger for computation something that you have to opt into. Like `Array.info(compute=True)` or something...
I've moved the base branch of this PR to `support/2.x` in case there is interest in continuing this work.
CI should be up and running again now.

@d-v-b is working on expanding the dtype story in zarr3 now -- including fixed-length-strings. Expect an update within a month or so here.
I'll let @normanrz say for sure but this should be handled by #1917
