@jgabry: Please don't merge this until there is a license statement for what we're doing.

The GitHub user agreement means anyone submitting code is agreeing to do it under the license for the project. Without a license, the IP related to any contribution will be unclear.

I'm OK with a CC-BY license of some sort. It can't be the non-commercial one or we won't be able to publish the book through CRC.

@jgabry: Is there any licensing for this repo?

Code and text authors retain copyright to what they write. In order to contribute it to an open-source package, you generally have to release the contribution under the same license. That is automatic with any contribution to a package with a declared license because of the GitHub end user license agreement. But I do not see a license for this repo. So @jgabry wouldn't have the necessary license to distribute something to which @pitmonticone has contributed.
