Scratch Jr won't load on Windows

Open technigirl opened this issue 5 years ago • 4 comments

Hello, I downloaded Scratch Jr for Windows from https://jfo8000.github.io/ScratchJr-Desktop/.

The application installed ok with no error messages, however when I try to launch it, I only see what is in the below screenshot. It appears the app is not loading.

I am using Windows 10 (Windows version 1903). I don't see any error messages when opening the app, either. I have tried rebooting my computer, disabling my security software, and uninstalling/reinstalling the app.

The Mac download seems to work fine on my Mac, so definitely seems to be a problem with the windows version.

If you need further info, please let me know.

Interesting - I haven't seen that one yet!
Are you admin? If you install as admin on the machine does it work?

Same issue running it in a raspberry PI, happy to try to fix it, any way to activate debug mode and get more logging?

Okay, I've fixed it. I just updated "electron-prebuilt-compile": "1.8.2-beta.3", in package.json to "electron-prebuilt-compile": "2.0.0", now it is working fine on a rPI 400. Pretty cool, guys the electron version you are using is very old, please think of updating it.

Carlos! You are a hero!

I'd completely given up on this. Thank you SO MUCH!

Forgive my ignorance, but how do we update the electron version? We teach kids to write code, and I used to have a couple of guys who were serious developers, but under covid, we've had to shrink down to just m and 9 teachers. They can program some pretty fancy algorithms in Scratch, but when it comes to the tools we use (scratchjr & scratch), we're just users, not developers.

Are you on the scratch team, or a project contributor?
