BTW, changing that line to `requests.put(...)` fixes the issue, but I also needed to work around https://github.com/fate0/pychrome/issues/59#issuecomment-1467009832 to start the tab properly
Unfortunately grappelli-safe doesn't support this feature. It'd be great to have it backported from Grappelli. Feel free to open a PR, I can help you get it merged in.

I think the best approach would be to skip _animated_ gifs only. Regular gifs are perfectly valid candidates for thumbnailing. I have no idea if Pillow can tell those two...
