Sure, that'd be great, but nobody's coding that, so right now it's either this admittedly half-ass fix or no fix at all, and no fix at all is not better....

I will say I understand there's an argument to be made that applying half-fixes is bad in an environment of volunteers who work on things that either appeal to them...
